Addictech.com Featured Release : Amoss - Everything Is Temporary : Dispatch Recordings

The highly anticipated debut album from London based duo Amoss is finally here; we are pleased to introduce ‘Everything Is Temporary’!

Backing an impressive run of Dispatch EPs and singles, ‘Everything Is Temporary’ is the culmination of Amoss so far; written alongside heavy touring, through years of scrutinous, hard graft in the studio, the album is a snapshot into their progression.

Pressurizing themselves with the concept of what an ‘album’ should entail, it was Codebreaker’s monologue ‘Everything Is Temporary’ that changed their view on the project, inspiring them to stick true to themselves and deliver raw, unfiltered material that would be an honest reflection of Amoss over the years and today.

“When we heard that lyric 'everything is temporary' it was like “yeah it fucking is temporary, so why are we worrying about this, what's the point? Let's just do what we've done all along, it hasn't failed us yet.”

Spoonbill's new EP - Crosshatch is ready to be unwrapped!

One of Melbourne's favourite natives delivers a new offering that weaves through sublime and squelchy synth tones, royally funked-up guitar and horn lines interlaced with irresistible lashings of exquisite bass. All entwined with that cheeky Spoonbill Wonkadelic Glitch Groove.

Spoonbill’s distinguished brand of genre-bending musical amalgam has seen many transformations throughout the artist’s career, which spans almost two decades. In 2015 we were blessed with an all-encompassing exploration of temple-tickling downtempo music with “Tinkerbox,” the artist’s chef d'oeuvre. "Squawkus" followed, which was a complete 180 from it’s predecessor - a 4-piece selection of delectable dance floor ditties filled with relentless, atypical glitch and more intense wobbles than a San Francisco earthquake.

Now the man has returned with “Crosshatch,” a highly palatable quintet of tunes brimming with smooth and calculated guitar riffs, invigorating horn work, and a colossal abundance of just what the doctor ordered - a hefty helping of GROOVE. The funk is seductive - it’s impossible not to cheese ear to ear with rhythm this infectious.

The beauty of “Crosshatch” is that it combines the upbeat cavorting of “Squawkus” with the detail and careful intricacies of “Tinkerbox.” The level of complexity compared to Spoonbill’s previous release has increased, but the furious toe-tapping fervor remains. What "Crosshatch" does it does very well - it not only showcases the fun, quirky, danceable side of Spoonbill, but also appeases those who pick apart every last note, begging to find something new with each listen. This makes the EP a must-have for any collector of extraordinary music.

Here we have the Hello Boss EP Cosmic Bridge Records! Proc Fiskal further explores the sweet spot between dark garage, grime and ragga jungle.

Here we have the Hello Boss EP Cosmic Bridge Records! Proc Fiskal further explores the sweet spot between dark garage, grime and ragga jungle. http://www.addictech.com/p/268797

Cosmic Bridge kicks off 2018 with an energetic four-track EP full of fresh ideas. Proc Fiskal is the alias of 21-year-old Joe Powers, an Edinburgh native who fell in love with UK dance music and the various strains of the hardcore continuum thanks to YouTube. He refined these inspirations at 160 bpm and began to receive airplay from the likes of grime veteran DJ Spooky. A debut EP for Hyperdub followed in 2017, speeding grime to jungle tempos for fascinating results. These unique tracks caught the ears of Om Unit leading to the Hello Boss EP, on which Proc Fiskal further explores the sweet spot between dark garage, grime and ragga jungle.

The tracks on Hello Boss were produced with DJs in mind. They’re energetic, versatile, and above all highly contagious in the dance. “A Fragrance” imagines Potential Badboy hanging out in the studio with Osmosis. The result is a fresh combination of mid-’90s jungle and UK garage with tightly-edited breakbeats, snapping drums, and a dark bassline clashing against flutes, sirens, horns and vocal samples. “Hello Boss” was inspired by a stand-off scene in a Bollywood movie, drawing its main sample from it and a tension that plays out in the interaction between drums and bassline. This is peak time dancefloor action, a dark roller to shake out the demons. Can you dig it? “Who Can’t Hear” is the most direct jungle production on the EP and shows Proc Fiskal for the dutiful student he is, able to tame the undiluted power of classic jungle with a modern touch: resonant bassline, smooth breakbeats, floating percussion, uplifting pads and a flurry of samples for a pure blast of junglistic joy. “Window Cat” closes the EP with a grime touch as icy, angular melodies rub against a robust bassline and sharp claps.

Hello Boss highlights the ingenuity and energy that can be found in the cracks of 160 bpm dance music, a space with enough room for innovation. It’s a natural fit for Cosmic Bridge, a label that has made its name by celebrating the weirdness on the fringes of genres. As Om Unit puts it, “Proc Fiskal’s sound fits sonically as well as logically alongside some of the pioneers we have supported over the years.”

Australian sound-sculptor griff has a proclivity for combining technological experimentation with warm and intimate acoustic instrumentation. With each consecutive release since his debut EP Elwood in 2009, griff has moved further and further away from an inherently “digital” sound, carefully skirting the line between electronic and organic.

With Aerial One, we see griff continue to incorporate a multitude of acoustic elements while still soothing synapses with clean, undulatory resonance. The album flows mellifluously in an illusory seamlessness not unlike a dream. The frequent inclusion of delicate melodies from a variety of string instruments melds in harmony with the alluring cadence of authentic percussion. However, vivacious bass is not neglected; peppered throughout the release is a viscid layer of low end sound design. That juxtaposition of grit and the grace is a large part of the charm of griff’s music.

This is an album for those unfamiliar with the sonic sweet spot that is acoustically-driven electronic music, and for the intransigent characters who dismiss electronic music for its supposed lack of instrumentation. The distinguished musicality presented in Aerial One is instantly apparent and undeniable, and the experience of meandering through each of griff’s latest works is a treat all it’s own.

Mindex has compiled a wonderful collection of chill psychedelic music for your soul on his label Time Resonance Music. http://www.addictech.com/p/266144

Eclecta I is the first compilation from Time Resonance Music, a label curated and created by Russian producer Slava Mindex. As its name suggests, it’s an eclectic mix that shifts between more laid-back tunes from artists such as Supertask, Primate and 5AM to some heavier sounds from Hullabalo0 and Spirit Tech. But despite the variation in energy, there is a clean, deeply organic quality consistent throughout the compilation. Only through a deep love, fascination and dedication to the pure physics of sound and music can one truly tap into this (universal) language. Slava and his like-minded friends on this compilation speak this same language fluently, and have graciously invited us into their conversation, if only to observe and to listen.
