Dub Warriors Vol 3 takes dub and dub-inspired styles on another epic quest through time, reminding us of where the dance floor/hall movement began… Jamaica in the 1950s? Cold Europe is the debut album of the duo Erstav, founded in 2015 by the the Italian artists Marco and Alessandro, 37 and 36 respectively.
Over the past ten years, Marco has released different projects under various monikers, with tracks ranging from Electronica to Breaks and Techno. His constant research for aesthetic and rhythmic elements in music and sound design slowly pushed him towards the underground border of the electronic music scene, where he found his comfort zone in a careful balance between minimalism and musicality.
Alessandro's influences instead come from an industrial and punk background and his first experiments in electronic music were heavily influenced by the d.i.y. ethos of punk and power-electronics and driven by a passion for electronic music hardware. He's been involved with different bands and music collectives until 2005 when he moved to London and started to work on his own solo projects.
The collision of these different worlds and influences is obvious in Cold Europe, where sound sources ranging from foley recording of old toys to analog and digital synths, drum machines and modular systems and a mix of elements from different genres such as dubstep, grime, IDM and Industrial are layered to create a dark sonic recollection of cold war years.
On Cold Europe, intricate and broken rhythmic parts are always the leading elements while melodic parts are somehow subdued, still betraying a meticulous and sophisticated sound design as can be noted in Warsaw, where two bass lines and a synth line are alternating on a relentless rhythm, or in Detente which manages to feel both ethereal and heavy at the same time while the rhythm keeps shifting. In Panchsheel granular textures are the background to syncopated rhythms and 'sliced and diced' percussions, while Palm Tree is dominated by a hypnotic melodic line played by a continuously evolving percussive sound. Peculiar elements can be found in Inside The Ghost, which hides subtle melodies on a minimalistic, deconstructed rhythmic session and Inverness, wears its techno influences on its sleeve while tension and release are played on a straight hard-hitting kick.

Austin native Somatoast returns with his second Gravitas album release, ‘Goop’! No stranger to the experimental and psychedelic realms of electronic music, Mark Rubin draws on IDM and glitch influences to provide a seven track sonic thrill ride full of visceral soundscapes and alluring melodies. Intricate sound design is his hallmark, and with finesse he effortlessly incorporates his refined palette into both dubby and downtempo frameworks.
‘Goop’ begins with “Nodus Tollens”, a smooth and laid back opener with heavy focus on ominous ambiance. The futuristic concoction “Obscurity Security” comes next, chock full of cosmic textures which perfectly set the tone for the entire album. Wonky and upbeat, “Polytricks” resets the pace before diving into the dreamy title track, a silky creation sure to send you adrift through the galaxy. “Spunning Song” builds on the celestial theme and injects velvety, groovy basslines for a funky and fluid finish. The last original offering on the album, “Robot Rain Drops”, is at times sensual and seductive, but the blissful flow is interrupted with upbeat sections peppered throughout. Wrapping up the release, remixing artist Zonra layers his abstract atmospheric style over the already sturdy foundation provided by Somatoast for his take on “Goop”.

Fueled through heavy bass, synthesizer magic, enigmatic dub, and percussive leads, all four tracks takes the listener into a psychedelic journey through unique composition. Prepare to flourish into an elevated state of being through intriguing melodies, glitched-out frequencies, and dope vocal samples which create a unique blend of existence.
From a dimly lit cave in Austin's own underground, Joseph Roberts, aka “Detox Unit”, has been cooking up his own blend of futuristic frequencies for the past 4 years. His aim, to make the imagination run wild; to tickle the brain in impossible ways. Originally hailing from New York, Joseph spent his childhood tinkering with old radios and building computers, fascinated bu the near endless possibilities that they presented. Inspired by artists such as Aphex Twin, Boards of Canada, Monolake, and Luke Vibert, he picked up a copy of Ableton Live and a myriad of synthesizers and hasn't left his cave since. Now 4 years later Detox Unit has become a familiar and loved name in the Austin experimental music scene known for his intricately woven sets and unique productions.

Mudra is an emerging talent from Italy producing Dubstep and Trap that is strongly influenced with Tribal and Trip-Hop elements. His sound design talents are also strongly on display on his debut EP ‘Divinorum’. The EP kicks of with tripped out beats and an immersive journey to some exotic future festival and then kicks into a more edgy domain with the trapped out vibes of ‘Karman’. ‘Sakti' and ‘Matter’ then take it back to some deep journey space which then drops some heavy dubstep neuro vibes amongst it all. HNGVR then brings the tempo up with an organic sounding halftime remix that has a good amount of bounce while retaining the tribal energy of the EP. nThe EP is then rounded out with an emotional halftime Drum and Bass remix of the tune Sakti by Muti Music label-head Dov1.
