Opiuo
has created an individual and uniquely funky sound, heavy in bass and
soaked in top shelf production techniques. His Butternut Slap series has
defined the next evolution in this artists adventure of sound. Selling
out tours all over the world, it is no surprise that his rise to the top
is imminent. Opiuo's light is shining very bright, and due to his
dedication and unique approach to the dancefloor he is establishing
himself as a true artist that will make his mark in EDM history. His
latest output is here, Butternut Slap Part 3!
We start the EP with Fizzle Tickler, a heavy anthemic piece of Opiuo. Laced perfectly with guitar, this hands in the air track pumps with grinding bass and a deep breakdown. Never fizzling, always tickling, this driving and chunky rocker is a great introduction to the release.
Next up is In Search of King Anchovy, immediately grabbing the listeners with a lead synth that is somehow both infectious as well as twisted. Huge drums support an incredible level of sustaining low end pressure, tight stabs and funky punches of melody glue together what could be what we consider the biggest track on the EP.
The heads will love what Gravel Rash adds to the package, with its warbly bass and warped power slump. This is the most experimental part of this release, still rocking the dancers and activating those wiggle muscles that you had forgotten about. You can really hear Opiuo's unique approach to synthesis applied with very intentional composition and sound design here.
To round out the package we have Trout Snout, a raggafied driving masterpiece. There is a suspiciously wicked symbiotic pump of the throbbing bass, the hypnotic skank, and the slick percussion that makes us wonder if Opiuo has been spending some secret time in Jamaica.
Once again, Opiuo meets and exceeds all expectations!
